My Gear
For those of you who want to know what camera gear I shoot with this is the article for you. I’d say 90 percent of my time is spend with 4 tools, the Canon 5D MK IV, the Canon 1DX MK II, a Canon 24-70mm ƒ2.8L IS II and a Canon 70-200mm ƒ2.8L II. Usually that answer is immediately followed up by the question “why that camera/lens” so here’s why they work for me.
Canon 1DX MK II
This is the main workhorse in my arsenal. I like it because I never have to worry with it. I know my focus will be sharp as it has one of the fastest autofocusing systems out there and shoots up to 14FPS. You will see me shooting this camera at most events, portrait shoots and anything with celebrities involved. It is also an amazing video camera and I will use it on one off small budget product shoots and videos direct to social.
The drawbacks to the 1DX MK II is that it is heavy, only shoots 20.2 MP and starts to get noisy ISO lower than other camera’s I use.
Canon 5D MK IV
This is the camera I use for my personal shoots. It has a better dynamic range than the 1DX MK II and shoots at 30.1MP. I used to use this camera a lot for video but it’s rare for me to shoot video on this these days. I love how quiet the shutter is compared to the 1DX MK II.
There are few drawbacks to this camera, the only reason I will upgrade is if the video improves dramatically.
Canon 24-70 ƒ2.8L II & Canon 70-200ƒ2.8 IS III
These are the two lenses that make up huge part of my workflow for both my professional and personal use. I used to only shoot with shallow primes but the more time I spent shooting the more I would find myself shooting at larger apertures which tends to happen when you become a commercial photographer. These two lenses allow me a massive focal range without worrying about sacrificing image quality. For most of the events I shoot these will be equipped on both camera’s so I can quickly swap between the two.
